The Franchise on Fire

The last installment of Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games” series came out on November 21, 2015 and it did not disappoint. “Mockingjay Part 2” was accurately named one of the most anticipated movies of 2015. Perhaps one of the biggest young author movie adaptations to hit cinemas, “The Hunger Games” shows a dark insight into a dystopian world where every year, a hunger games is held in which children fight to the death. The futuristic tale is centered on Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and her fight against the cruel government led by an even crueler President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
Mockingjay Part 2 picks up where it left off with a devastated Katniss recovering from a violent attack by Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) who was tortured and hijacked at the hands of the capital. The movie takes you on the tragic journey of Katniss as she fights to accomplish her goal to kill President Snow.
Francis Lawrence did an amazing job directing the final film, bringing the book to life. Everyone knows the disappointing feeling of their favorite book not being given justice on the big screen, but not in the case of Mockingjay. As a fan of the books, I can honestly say Francis Lawrence did an exceptional job with the book to movie adaptation, even using exact lines from the book! The stellar cast, featuring actors such as Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, and Liam Hemsworth, really helped bring the characters to life. Mockingjay Part 2 produced a strong message, urging everyone to fight for what they believe in. With such a tough and inspiring heroine, you will soon find yourself saying, “What would Katniss do?”
Although it is sad to see such a fantastic series come to an end, I couldn’t think of a better finale. Mockingjay Part 2 was definitely worth the wait as we give “The Hunger Games” series a three finger salute farewell.
