Science and Epsom Salt

By Hannah Sudaria

This one-of-a-kind substance so versatile: Epsom salt – or magnesium sulfate – is supposed to help with sore muscles after a workout and is often used in a bath. The idea is that soaking in the magnesium sulfate bath helps in the muscle recovery process. Also, Epsom salt can quell foot odor, help heal fungus or ingrown nails, and soothe dry skin. This process pulls salt and harmful toxins out of the body and allows the magnesium and sulfates to enter into the body. Finding this healing salt is simple, as it is stocked by drug stores and pharmacies. One can also use this to relieve nerve pain and cramping, heal bruises, help remove splinters, exfoliate the skin, clean up pots and pans as well as grout in tile, dislodge blackheads, eliminates toxins from the body, and the weirdest of all, keep your lawn green, but how?

Magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed through the skin and into the body's blood stream. The magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. This relaxation helps reduce adrenaline, lowering the stressful effects, to make one feel relaxed and improve sleep and concentration. Epsom salt is known to reduce the pain of inflammation to help make sure the nerves in the body function properly. The sulfates in the magnesium help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain. Adding the right minerals to your bath water triggers reverse osmosis where it pulls salt out of your body.

The green living Epsom salt is ideal to organic gardening needs because it’s a treatment for plants both indoors and out. Right when the seeds begin to develop, it uses the Epson salt as an important mineral to strengthen the plant call walls, so the plant can receive essential nutrients. In the process of photo synthesis, magnesium plays a role in allowing phosphorus and nitrogen to be soaked up, which serve as a revitalizer and fertilizer ingredient for soil. The sulfate in Epson salt helps the healthy longevity of plants, so it’s more long lasting.

To remove symptoms of athlete’s foot or tired feet, soak your feet in this salt to soothe it. This can be an anti-bacterial on fungal problems. This can also help with foot odors.   Exfoliating dead skin is fundamental to the body because it won’t form a buildup of dead skin cells and hair follicles and cause a person to breakout. This will effectually achieve a healthy glowing skin and increase your older years from reducing wrinkles. This can also dislodge blackheads by removing them. It’s a natural remedy so don’t have high expectations, this solution takes time and patience.
