Whose side are you on?

by David Nguyen

Although Age of Ultron picked up after the events of The Winter Soldier, which revealed Hydra to have been operating within S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige reiterated that Civil War is a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. From day one, no one could get enough info about the secretive movie shoot, and with every piece of news revealed, fans went crazy with speculation and anticipation, unable to wait until the films May 6th, 2016 release date to see the finished product. Now that May is almost here many people know a lot more about Captain America: Civil War than ever before. We know who the main characters will be, what conflict will drive the story, and just how many mind-blowing cameos and world-blowing-up explosions will occur.

According to an official press release, the movie will begin with Captain America leading the new team of Avengers around the globe and stopping threats. Unfortunately, one stop on this tour leads to an international incident involving a good deal of collateral damage. Mounting political pressure results in a regulation that will force superheroes to register with the government, but while some individuals are on board with this idea, others very much aren’t. This leads to a clash of the titans where heroes aren’t fighting villains, but instead other heroes.

The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Tony’s Stark’s side consists of War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Vision (Paul Bettany). The folks opposing the Registration Act are Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Agent 13 (Emily Van Camp), Captain America (Chris Evans), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan)

Despite all of the anticipation, the film has remained firmly under wraps, with the exception of a trailer that dropped a couple of months ago and some promotional materials here and there. While excitement builds up for the upcoming release of the Sci-Fi, fans decide whose side to root for; Iron Man’s or Cap’s?
