Why Haven't You Eaten Here?

By Isabella Canale

Considering Indigo Burger is located only three minutes away from Kennedy High School, it's hard to believe you haven’t eaten here! The same founders of RawASF in Milpitas, CA opened their second vegan joint this past September in Newark, CA. Indigo Burger started business with a simple menu consisting of: the Indigo Burger, Chicken Sando’, fries, and milkshakes. Now the restaurant has expanded its menu to include the Meatball Sando’, Mozzarella Sticks, Loaded Fries, and soda floats. Reading the menu, you may be wondering if all of the options are all vegan… YES! All of the food and drinks are 100% plant-based and delicious! The restaurant uses brands like Impossible Foods, Follow Your Heart, and Eclipse to bring customers tasty, plant-based meals.

However, you shouldn’t just take my word for it, Google and Yelp both rate Indigo Burger more than ⅘ stars. Customers have left reviews raving about the food, customer service, and COVID precautions; one customer on Yelp quoted, “My new favorite fast food restaurant!” Another review on Yelp reads “One of the best impossible burgers I ate... cooked perfectly!” Many customers left recommendations to try the milkshakes, including one claiming the Pumpkin Spice milkshake is, “like drinking a pumpkin pie!” These reviews only touch base on what Lorenzo Lazaro (senior at Kennedy HS) had to say after trying their burger, fries, and cookies & cream milkshake. When asked about his experience eating at Indigo, Lorenzo said, “It was great! I sat outside and the area was really nice, there were plants and shade. My milkshake was super good and didn’t make me feel sick like dairy does. The burger was really filling, but I would choose the loaded fries over seasoned next time.”

Indigo Burger is open from 11:30 am to 8 pm Monday through Sunday and located in the Balentine Plaza, off the Stevenson exit on I-880. This restaurant took over the space previously owned by Subway next to Starbucks; outside dining, online ordering, and pickups are available. Masks are required inside the restaurant and social distancing is enforced. Indoor dining is in the process as Alameda County slowly allows it, but bathrooms are available for customer use. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or an omnivore, make sure to eat at Indigo Burger as soon as possible for the best burger ever!
